STEPHEN KING SAYS DONALD TRUMP IS A BUFFOON

news

“Donald Trump is a carnival man, an entertainer, a buffoon. His fans are white, scared and angry. He will never be elected, not as long as minorities, liberals and educated people vote, but he has certainly exposed the ugly underbelly of conservatives in America today.” – Stephen King

Since Donald Trump’s campaign journey for the 2016 US Presidential elections, he has earned the ire of the public for being blatantly outspoken about major sociopolitical issues with his crass demeanor and crude choice of words.

In December 2015, Trump completely dominated the public discourse with a cocky 56% Twitter mention of the top six candidates in the campaign as revealed by Brandwatch, a social media analytic.

Donald Trump’s complete domination in social media has constantly outdistanced his foes not because he outwitted them in the presidential debates but largely because of his disturbing proposal to ban all muslins from entering the US. This controversial suggestion was made in response to the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California by a Muslim couple last December 2, 2015.

Tweets about Donald Trump’s discriminatory proposal earned him more than 646 000 retweets on December 7, a conspicuous exponential increase from his average 100 000 tweets the week prior. For the rest of the month, retweets about Trump’s obscene Muslim solution went beyond 200 000 tweets a day.

While the age-old adage that says bad publicity is still publicity, the same cannot be said on Trump’s case.

According to USA TODAY, about a week ago, Trump generated 50 million interactions on Facebook a week after he made his witless comments about Muslims. Sentiments hoisted across Facebook and Twitter about the issue was simply grim and detrimental to Trump’s campaign as more than half of it is negative, as pointed out by Brandwatch’s own system.

It was only on December 19, 2015 that Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton managed to overthrow Trump’s dismal reign on Twitter during the Democratic debate in New Hampshire.

The latest brouhaha on the Muslim ban has got celebrity horror novelist Stephen King chime in his opinion brandishing Trump as a “carnival man, an entertainer and a buffoon.”

Celebrities including Bette Midler and Michael Ian Black spoke up in social media platforms to raise their support of the Muslim community. An image of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a Muslim headscarf was also quick to circulate the internet with a caption “Britain so radicalised that the Queen now wears a hijab instead of a crown”.

Michael Cornfield, a professor at George Washington University, is part of a project that attempts to track political conversation on social media. Cornfield said, “Cruz is much more effective” at using social media. “When we rate not just who is a social media phenomenon but who has a really good digital campaign … we put Cruz, Clinton and Sanders in the elite, not Trump,” Cornfield said, because “they are driving traffic to their sites.”
